Wow! The commercial recording of Pitch In has been released. This remarkable 12.5 -minute musical composition by James Lee III was commissioned by Indiana University.
Mr. Lee chose the Poetry X Hunger poem, Pitch In, by Sylvia Dianne Beverly aka Ladi Di (Maryland, USA) for the lyric. Here's what Mr. Lee says about his composition. "I very much enjoyed composing this new work "Pitch In" for youth chorus and string quartet. It was a pleasure to collaborate with Josephine Lee, Uniting Voices, the Pacifica Quartet, and setting the texts of Sylvia Dianne Beverly for such an important topic as hunger and food insecurity." ---James Lee III Here's the link to the performance -- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=87SkUjGG93o And here's the link to the text of the poem -- Pitch In by Ladi Di - Poetry X Hunger Thanks to the creative forces that Mr. Lee and Ladi Di represent. And, to poetry and music that fights hunger.

And he's selling the book to support No Kid Hungry
Here's what he says about his important project -- **** Song Sprite (No Kid Hungry Indiegogo Campaign): Sing yourself the song you began as a child Live your song the one from the magical wild Know that you'll be held close as you close your eyes Know what we hear your heartbeat in your lullabies I am using an original song/video/book in an Indiegogo campaign that lasts until Jan 7 24 to try to raise money for No Kid Hungry (https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/song-sprite#/), a not for profit aimed at food insecurity in the US. The song messages what I imagine to be any parents' love for their child, that is hard not to juxtapose against so many families in our country being unable to feed their children who live with constant food insecurity, a problem we could solve if we chose to do so. The campaign also messages if caregivers so choose, that by helping in the campaign (e.g., donating $50 or more to get the book) or watching the video, children are in effect helping other children get enough to eat. All money raised from the campaign after Indiegogo platform costs and book publishing/shipping costs goes to No Kid Hungry. Ted Barnes |
